History and Purpose: The Baton Rouge Black Chamber of Commerce (BRBCC) was initially formed as the North Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce in April of 2004 in order to “serve the underserved” African-American business community in the metro-Baton Rouge area. It was established with the combined efforts of Eric Lewis, Frank Brown, Marie Scantlebury, Morris Harris, Marcus Lewis, and Tommy Cain as an organization focused on strengthening the African-American businesses of the Baton Rouge region.
We are an inclusive organization. It is our desire to see the entire Baton Rouge region excel. A vibrant population of African-American entrepreneurs is essential to meeting this goal. The BRBCC will help to diversify the active players in the Baton Rouge marketplace by providing our membership with opportunities for new and innovative training and mentorship programs. We will actively communicate the changes in the local business and political climate that will impact our membership. The BRBCC will prove to be the long-awaited vessel to elevate the Baton Rouge economic community to the top of the list of preferred cities with which to do business.
What is a Chamber of Commerce? It is an organization of business people designed to advance the interests of its members. There are three levels: national, state and local.
