Frequently Asked Questions

What is an African-American Chamber of Commerce?
The concept of an African-American Chamber of Commerce has been around for three quarters of a century.  Many of the larger cities - with which Baton Rouge competes for jobs and professional talent - have had similar chambers for much of this time.  As with any chamber, the African-American chambers seek to improve the business opportunities of its membership.

Why is there a need for an African-American Chamber of Commerce?
We believe that now is the time for African-American-owned businesses to take full advantage of the economic expansion currently occurring in the Baton Rouge area.  The Chamber will provide our membership with the resources they need to be prepared to take advantage of these emerging opportunities.

What makes this chamber different from the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce or other existing chambers?
While we can’t speak for the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber or any other local organization, our primary focus is to ensure the economic success of African-American-owned businesses.

What services are offered to chamber members?
We provide training, mentoring, governmental and economic development interfacing, and business development.

Can BRB Chamber members also hold membership in other chambers?
The BRB Chamber fully embraces diversity.  We understand that we do not encompass the total solution.  We encourage members to actively participate in other chambers and business networking organizations.

Can non-African-Americans join the BRB Chamber of Commerce?
We encourage any individual or entity who seeks a diverse Baton Rouge economy that includes thriving African-American-owned businesses to join the BRB Chamber of Commerce.
